AN ITALIAN CLOSE-HELMET ALTERED FOR THE PISAN GIOCO DEL PONTE
Late 16th Century with later additions
Of bright steel, comprising well-formed one-piece skull rising to a roped comb with two incised lines on each side and flanked by the incised letters 'G' and 'P' (for Galleria Prima), at the base a riveted plume-holder and two lames also marked 'GP', bevor and visor pivoting at the same points, the latter secured by two hooks and pierced with roundels of circular sighting-holes, and single neck-plate front and rear (bevor with patched repairs, pivot bolts replaced, some pitting)
