A FINE MEXICAN ROWEL SPUR
17th Century
Entirely of iron, with diagonally fluted asymmetrical U-shaped heel band, each side terminating in a flat plate, the outer one pierced and chiselled with birds, lions, and a grotesque mask, the inner one with a peacock, the rowel box pierced and chiselled with scrolls framing a demi-figure on each side, the large rowel with seven points with pierced scrolls between, retaining a buckle and two strap-attachments
