A CASED PAIR OF 40-BORE PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS
Circa 1840
With twist octagonal sighted barrels (one with small areas of pitting) with multigroove rifling and inlaid with silver and gold, each top flat with the gold inscription 'Damas de Paris', case-hardened patent breeches, case-hardened scroll engraved tangs each incorporating the back-sight and each inlaid with silver and gold, detented back-action locks en suite, figured walnut half-stocks, the butts with laurel chequering, the fore-ends (one cracked) each carved in relief with a lion-head, oval pommels each incorporating a white-metal butt-trap with hinged silver cover decorated in relief with a Classical portrait head, engraved case-hardened iron mounts inlaid with silver and gold, blued set triggers, gold escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and much original finish: in original brass-bound rosewood-veneered case lined in plum velvet with complete accessories including embossed white-metal flask (repaired), lid with flush-fitting carrying handle, Liège proof
