A CASED PAIR OF 38-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOLS

With swamped browned twist octagonal sighted multigroove-rifled barrels, silver fore-sights, burnished steel tangs each engraved with a bird on a branch, signed burnished flat detented bevelled locks each with engraved cock and stepped tail, semi-rainproof pan, blued steel-spring with roller, and original blued finish on the internal working parts, the inside struck with locksmith's mark 'G B', walnut full stocks each with a line of silver studs around the barrel tang, flattened chequered butts studded with silver nails and decorated with further silver studs, carved flat oval pommels set with a silver medallion engraved with a Classical portrait head, full silver mounts engraved with putti, flowers, foliage, and rabbits, spur trigger-guards, silver side-nail washers and barrel-bolt escutcheons, blued set triggers, original horn ramrods each with worm, and in fine condition throughout (one side-nail chipped): in fitted mahogany case relined with leather, complete with accessories including brass-mounted translucent horn powder-flask (cut-off and spring missing), the lid with flush-fitting carrying handle, silver maker's mark L D
