The Focal Plane Hand camera was advertised from 1905 to 1907 after which competition from other hand camera and reflex focal-plane camera probably proved too much. The camera had been 'specially designed to meet the requirements of serious photographic workers'. The principal features of the camera were described as strength and rigidity which were 'essential to cameras possessing a focal plane shutter'. The review continued: 'simplicity in operation and thoroughness in production have also been closely attended to. Although very strongly and substantially built the camera is not bulky; the measurements over all when closed are 6 by 6 x 4½ in. The camera is made of fine mahogany, covered morocco on the outside. The exterior fittings are polished, ebonised and black metal with nickel points, a stout leather carrying handle is provided; the interior fittings are lacquered brass. The folding baseboard is fitted with a specially devised hinge, affording complete rigidity; the clamp of the sliding front is also of a new and efficient form'.
