After Consuelo Vanderbilt's divorce from the 9th Duke of Marlborough and her re-marriage to Colonel Jacques Balsan, she spent an increasing amount of energy decorating her houses in Palm Beach, New York and Southampton. The present lot is from her Palm Beach house 'Casa Alva'.
