Syrie Maugham, known as the first Englishwoman to enter interior decorating, is widely known for creating the unprecedented trend for 'all-white rooms' in the 1930's. White-washed and white-painted furniture, white plaster figures and white walls and carpets were common in the room settings popularized by Mrs. Somerset Maugham. The form and wood treatment of the offered lot are indicative of the 'Maugham look.'
