VERY RARE '45'S RECENTLY REMOVED FROM A NEW YORK CELLAR
Not often do we see genuine wines from the 1945 vintage, those wines which have come from a great old cellar with impeccable provenance. So the two full cases on offer here are real treasures. Both the full dozens were recently removed from their old decrepid original wooden cases for safe keeping in safer more modern containers by Christie's Wine Department staff. This is the first time in my many years at Christie's both in London and New York that I have come across and original wooden case of 1945 d'Yquem. The wines in this cellar stopped at the 1958 vintage and went back to 1878, all genuine originals, no recorking, no re-labelling just rare old relics.
This is indeed a rare occasion and one that buyers should not miss.

BEYCHEVELLE 1945
Château Beychevelle--Vintage 1945
Saint-Julien, 4me cru classé
Levels: five bottom neck, four very top, six top, three upper top and one mid-shoulder. Two slightly protruding capsules, badly bin-soiled labels
Tasted 10/2002 from this cellar. Soft mature red, very pure. Nice lift on the nose, mature yet ripe currants. After 30 minutes fuller, richer. Full rich earthy plums on the palate; sweet dry long finish and showing well for it's age. Needs decanting at least 90 minutes before serving. DW
