Chambertin--Vintage 1989
Côte de Nuits, A. Rousseau
"A magnificent wine from this appellation, Rousseau's Chambertin clearly lives up to its reputation as the 'king of wines.' A huge nose of sweet, gamey, earthy fruit, intermingled with scents of toasty new oak, is followed by a wine with sensational ripeness, staggering concentration and extract, as well as flavors reminiscent of Peking duck lathered with green onions and hoisin sauce. Hard to resist at present, this wine is just beginning to unfold. It ideally needs 3-5 years of cellaring; it should mature brilliantly for 12-15 years. Could the 1989 turn out to be a clone of the other-worldly 1969?" Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Issue 78
