Ajay Swarnkar was born in Jaipur, India, in 1980 and executed this painting when he was only 16 years old. He joins a long line of very talented artists who have come out of Jaipur and his fine and exact painting technique to achieve a photo-realistic effect is very much in the tradition of his Jaipur predecessors.
In May, 2001, a Swarnkar painting based on the famous portrait of a young refugee by Fred McCurry taken for the National Geogrpahic magazine, was sold through these rooms for £2,200.
