A pair of pink satin ballet shoes by Freed, London, both soles stamped with manufacturer's details and inscribed Fonteyn in blue ballpoint pen in an unidentified hand; accompanied by three Royal ballet programmes, one for The First Performance Of A New Production Of Swan Lake, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 12th December, 1963 featuring Nureyev and Fonteyn; a souvenir programme for The Queen's Silver Jubilee, London Celebrations, Gala Performance by The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 30th May, 1977 featuring Placido Domingo, Nureyev and Fonteyn and others; and A Tribute to Margot Fonteyn in celebration of her sixtieth birthday.., Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 23rd May, 1979 (4)

Lot Essay

The vendor recalls receiving the ballet shoes in this lot as a gift from Dame Margot Fonteyn backstage at the Royal Opera House in the 1960s. The gift followed her performance of Odette & Odile in Swan Lake and the vendor understood that Fonteyn had worn the shoes in this lot while dancing the lead in this ballet.
