Lot Essay

See footnote to lot 214.

This 'Face Hugger' was a prototype modelled in Shepperton Design Studios according to Giger's original concept drawings. The first time that a Face Hugger appears in the Aliens Trilogy is in the memorable scene with Kane [John Hurt], when Brett and Lambert bring him back to the Infirmary with a face hugger clamped to his face. H.R. Giger designed all three types of Alien - the Face Hugger, the Chest Burster and the Big Alien. Original concept designs called for a much larger Face Hugger which used a long, muscular tail to spring out of the egg like a Jack-in-a-box but Ridley Scott decided he wanted something smaller and more face-sized. According to Giger, the Face Hugger then became a creature that looked ...a little bit like a spider with a tail. His body is very small and the biggest things are the two hands and a tail...

These storage boxes were made by the same Design Studios and similar boxes of varying shapes can be seen in the film stacked in a storage area on the C level of the Nostromo.
