The first cars built by Rolls-Royce with moncoque construction were the Silver Shadow and T-Series Bentley. The conventional chassis frame was replaced by a front sub-assembly and a rear sub-assembly for the back axle and suspension. Power was from the 6.2 litre, eight cylinder, light alloy engine while other features such as hydraulic disc brakes, and an improved power-assisted steering system, ensured that the new model was mechanically up-to-date. Although the car did not have any sporting pretensions it was still swift and, as always, accommodated four passengers in great style and comfort. Latterly for the introduction of the Shadow II in 1977, Rolls-Royce increased the engine size to 6750cc by lengthening the stroke.
This particular car was supplied though Jack Barclays' in London in its present livery. They were to handle the sale of the car again in December 1984. The following year, the company were to start their extensive maintenance program on the car with a Scheduled C Service at 22,490 miles. Ten thousand miles ago the car was to return to the dealership, for a new gearbox and bodywork at a cost of £9,500. Since acquisition by the owner the car has had over £35,000 spent on mechanical and bodywork repairs in 32,885 miles.
Sold with a current MoT, this must represent a rare opportunity to purchase a Silver Shadow which has a virtual full Rolls-Royce service history, by the most prestigious main agent in the world.
