A Louis Philippe bronze and ormolu musical and automaton mantel timepiece, circa 1840
The case naturalistically modelled with a spiral glass rod simulating water projecting from rockwork, flanked by a palm tree and a figure of Robinson Crusoe with umbrella, on stepped base with palm leaf mount to the front and raised on part-milled bun feet, the drum case within an acanthus clasp and with silvered Roman dial, blued steel hands, the associated pocket watch movement with pierced and engraved bridgecock and signed Le Roy Paris, automaton movement below driven by a single barrel, resting on an oval satinwood plinth with toupie feet and housing a pull-wound musical movement with 6.5cm. long pinned cylinder, stamped P.H. PAJIK, playing two tunes, a mother-of-pearl plaque to the front inscribed Changer and Jouer -- 12¾in. (32.5cm.) high; under glass dome
