An English black-japanned longcase clock
The hood with stepped top and glazed side panels, inset columns, the breakarch trunk door with moulded frame, decorated with birds and chinoiserie pagodas, the shortened plinth on plain skirting, the 12in. wide brass dial with female mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and lozenge half quarter hour markers, matted centre with subsidiary silvered seconds ring, ringed winding holes and date aperture with bird engraved border, with foliate scroll engraving below and around a silvered convex disc in the arch signed Thomas/Fox/London, within dolphin spandrels, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell, later seatboard, case distressed; dial and movement associated to case, circa 1725 -- 82in. (208½in.) high
