A late Victorian oak and gilt-brass mounted quarter-chiming Directors' clock, circa 1890
The case with pineapple finial to the pediment and four urn finials below, with inset fluted columns to the front angles and sound frets cast with radiant cherub masks, the base with swag and tassel mount, on bun feet with fluted caps, the brass dial with shell and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with matted centre, a winged cherub mount above XII, with silvered subsidiary dials to the arch above for chime/silent, slow/fast and 8 bells/Westminster, the substantial triple chain fusee movement with anchor escapement and hour strike on gong, with quarter chimes on eight nested bells or four further gongs, the back plate numbered 216 -- 28¾in. (73cm.) high
