A Victorian brass skeleton timepiece with Evans' detented escapement, circa 1870
The pierced scroll frame on stepped oval white marble plinth raised on bun feet, under glass dome, silvered chapter ring with shield-shaped plaques for painted Roman numerals, bisected at VI by a subsidiary seconds ring, black painted hands, the five pillar single train inverted chain fusee movement with detented escapement, maintaining power, the wood rod pendulum with cylindrical pewter bob and brass rating nut -- 19½in. (49.5cm.) high over dome
