A George III ebonised and brass-mounted quarter-chiming table clock, circa 1770
The case with bell top and brass flaming urn finials, brass handles to the sides above fish scale sound frets, with mounts to the front and rear angles of caryatids trailing flowers (part lacking to rear), with brass-lined base and raised on foliate scroll feet, the gilt-brass dial with foliate scroll spandrels to a silvered Roman chapter ring signed Ellicott London, matted centre with date aperture, black painted pierced steel hands, the arch above with subsidiary silvered strike/silent ring, the substantial six pillar movement with triple wire fusees, verge escapement, hour strike on bell, with quarter chimes on eight nested bells, trip repeat, the back plate elaborately engraved with foliate scrolls and a pagoda, with further engraving to the backcock apron -- 23in. (58.5cm.) high
