Poiteau and Ferner Redouté by Barrois, Bigant and others, including 2 double-page and one folding (some occasional light spotting). (Lacking the title in vol. III, some occasional spotting.) Nineteenth-century half calf (some covers detached, worn). Provenance: Henry Walker Williams (bookplates); Massachusetts Horticultural Society (stamps).
FIRST EDITION. The originals for the finely-colored and botanically accurate plates are mostly by Pancrace Bessa, although there are a few by his master Ferner Redouté and Pierre-Antoine Poiteau. In addition to the highly decorative flowering plants and the more exotic species, some fruit are also included in the work. Sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return.
