JON PROVOST SHIRT FROM "LASSIE"
TV Series, 1954-1974
The signature red and white checkered shirt worn by child actor Jon Provost as he portrayed little Timmy Martin in the television series about the beloved Collie. Made of cotton with a four-button front closure and a small right-breast pocket, this piece has a paper studio drycleaning tag stapled to the interior reading Desi/G/7 NS and a handwritten notation on the hem reading New. The lower front portion of this shirt appears to have been purposely distressed (likely due to plot developments) and a small repaired rip appears on the back of the right arm -- a tear said to have been made by Lassie herself! The current consignor was a childhood friend to Jon Provost as he lived near the young actor in Beverly Hills during the late 1950s. Jon's mother donated this particular shirt to a local charity auction while her son was still working on the "Lassie" TV series; coincidentally their young neighbor (now Christie's consignor) won it. Additionally, Jon's mother relayed the story about Lassie accidently ripping the shirt sleeve while she and Jon were playing on the set.
