'Keybooks' were compiled by all the major studios during the 'Golden Era' of Hollywood (1920s-1960s) and consisted of beautifully printed black and white photographs which chronologically outlined the entire plot of the film. These stills were then bound into leather binders embossed with the film title and date. The term 'keybook' likely derived from the fact that the stills depicted 'key' scenes. After filming was finished, the main cast, crew and production teams usually received these keybooks as mementos of their work. The following fifteen lots were Ronald Colman's personal keybooks; ones which he proudly displayed on his library shelves.
