Lot Essay

The arms and crest are those of Stucley of Alleton, Co. Devon, probably for Dennis Stucley, who succeded to the Alleton Estates and died unmarried 1755.
Dennis was the grandson of Lewis Stucley, of Alleton and Bideford, Devon, Chaplain to Oliver Cromwell, married Susanna (died 1692), daughter and co-heir of Robert Dennis, of Bideford.
Sir Dennis Frederick Bankes Stucley, 5th Bt., of Alleton Castle, Co. Devon, married 5 Janary 1932, Hon. Sheila Margaret Warwick Bampfylde, only daughter of 4th Baron Poltimore.
