A PAIR OF NORTH-ITALIAN GILTWOOD ARMCHAIRS
Mid-18th Century, possibly Lombardy or Veneto
Each with a cartouche-shaped back and serpentine-fronted seat covered à chassis with red floral silk damask, the channelled frame carved with scrolling foliage and flower heads, the arched cresting centred by rocaille-carved scrolls, the downswept arms terminating in acanthus scrolls, above a shaped apron, on cabochon-headed cabriole legs ending in acanthus scrolls and hoof feet, one arm with restored break, one frame numbered 'II', regessoed and regilt (2)
