We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs. He points out two other versions of the Mussel Eater, both also signed with monogram: that sold, Lempertz, Cologne, 16 March 1977, lot 1344, and that with Friederike Pallamar, Vienna, 1966, as the 'Monogrammist HR'.
