Lot Essay

The train comprises seven wheels, starting with the fusee great wheel through to the escape wheel pinion of the modern lever escapement. There are indications that this was originally fitted with a form of sub-frame assembly, possibly having a detent escapement. As may be expected with a twelve month timekeeper, the barrel is exceptionally large and contains a very strong mainspring. The fusee is very high to accommodate the twenty-four turns in its groove.
