The case inlaid with seaweed marquetry to the plinth on later base, convex moulding to the trunk door with brass-framed lenticle and later mouldings, similar marquetry to the concave throat moulding and to the hood with brass-capped columns, later pierced wood fret beneath the moulded flat top, the 12in. square dial signed John Martin London on the silvered chapter ring with later blued steel hands, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding holes and decorated calendar aperture, crown-and-cherub spandrels, wheatear engraved border, the movement with five ringed pillars, anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on a bell above the plates
