Pyne, Nathaniel. Born circa 1653, apprenticed April 1667 to Thomas Wheel until 1674 and Freed November 1677. Received charity from the Clockmakers' Company 1714-15 and probably died not long after.

A William and Mary walnut and marquetry longcase clock

The case with profuse bird-and-floral marquetry to the plinth on later skirting, the trunk door with circular lenticle and inlaid with elaborate floral marquetry centred by a gadrooned urn issuing a bouquet of flowers, the door bordered by ebony-inlaid foliate marquetry, twin boxwood-bordered rectangular panels to the sides, floral marquetry to the concave throat moulding and to the hood with later plain columns, later inlaid frieze above, the caddy top inlaid with floral marquetry and flanked by later gilt-wood ball-and-spire finials, the 11in. square dial signed Nat Pyne on an applied plaque beneath the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands (later hour hand), the well matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding holes and decorated calendar aperture, foliate-and-cherub spandrels, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and internal countwheel strike on a bell above the plates
