A MEISSEN CHINOISERIE RECTANGULAR TEA CADDY AND COVER
1730-1735, blue crossed swords mark, painted by Christian Friedrich Herold, signed C.F.H
Painted in the Clemens August manner with Chinoiserie figures on terraces with children, birds, monkeys and flowering plants before fences with vases and flowering plants, on gilt and Böttger lustre trellis and Laub-und Bandelwerk brackets surrounded by further puce and iron-red foliage, the upper corners with gilt scale pattern, the shoulder with iron-red and puce trellis pattern and flowerheads, the top of the cover with a further Chinoiserie figure (some wear to gilting at the angles and on the cover)

Lot Essay

The artist's initials can be read on an end panel, inscribed in dark purple on the small lilac oval on the drum table at which a man is seated smoking.

The gilt decoration is close to that on a Wochenterrine formerly in the Gustav von Klemperer collection. Cf. Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Porzellansammlung Gustav v. Klemperer, nos. 77-78
