A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED EGYPTIAN PORPHYRY COVERED URNS
Each lid with pomegranite finial above an urn-form body set with opposing bearded satyr mask handles with berried-laurel headress, upon a waisted socle with leaf-tipped and guilloche cast stepped plinth base, one lacking the disc support to finial under the lid, and overall of slightly redder colour though almost certainly original, the other with repaired breaks to the body

A pair of onyx urns with identical mounts was sold in Paris, Drouot, 9 December 1909, lot 70, whilst a pair of alabaster pot-pourri vases with closely related mounts but with pierced guilloche frieze was sold anonymously at Christie's London, 18 June 1987, lot 115.
