Lot Essay

This watercolour appears to have been inspired by a series of twelve etchings of horses by Dirk (Theodorus, Rodrigo) Stoop. See K.G. Boon (ed.), Hollstein's Dutch and Flemish Etchings, Engravings and Woodcuts, XXVIII, Blaricum, 1984, pp. 108-113, particularly nos. 5 and 8.
