In the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery there is another view of Laugharne Castle by Cox, S. Wildman, David Cox, Birmingham, 1983, no. 43, pl. 10, illustrated in colour. It shows the castle at high tide in a rainstorm with a group of travellers struggling against the elements on the shore.
Cox painted the castle from the same viewpoint as Turner chose for his view of the castle of circa 1831, engraved for Picturesque Views of England and Wales, 1833 (E. Shanes, Turner's Picturesque Views in England and Wales 1825-1838, London, 1979, pl. 57 illustrated in colour). Cox probably knew Turner's watercolour as it was exhibited at the Moon, Boys and Graves Gallery, 6 Pall Mall, 1833, no. 49. The Turner is now in the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio.
