Lot Essay

This watercolour was made during a brief tour in 1834, the year in which Callow was engaged by King Louis Philippe to give drawing lessons to his son the Duc de Nemours and his daughter Princesse Clémentine. The year before Callow took an atelier with Thomas Shotter Boys in 19 rue du Bouloi, Paris, not far from the Louvre.
