FIRST EDITION. Champollion studied Hebrew, Syriac, Ethiopic, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and in particular Coptic. His main interest was Egyptology, and he recovered the key for the understanding of the hieroglyphs. Blackmer 310. (2)
