2o (388 x 259 mm). Elaborate architectural woodcut title-page (with medallion portraits of Dodoens and Clusius) framing scene of a fountain and extensive garden parterres by W. Swan, printed in two columns in roman, italic and bâtarde types, eight-line and smaller historiated woodcut capitals, 1470 column-width woodcuts in the text, including appendix of New World and West Indian botany. Plantin's woodcut device at end. (Some wear along fore-edge in last two quires, some light browning and occasional pale spotting.) Contemporary Dutch vellum, covers with central blind-stamped arabesques (rebacked, repairs to corners). Provenance: some early marginalia; Ipswich Museum and Free Library (stamp on title, few internal leaves).
Last and most complete Dutch language edition of Dodoens' Stirpium historiae pemptades sex. The title was first used in the 1608 edition. Nissen BBI 518; Stafleu & Cowan TL2 1492.
