Title with large lithographed vignette, 69 lithographed plates, maps and plans, one hand-colored, 4 double-page or folding, many on india paper and mounted, wood engravings in text (some foxing and dustsoiling throughout, few minor marginal tears). Contemporary half diced russia, marbled boards (a bit worn). Provenance: William Harrison (armorial bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. Laborde made the journey to Petra with the engineer Linant de Bellefonds in February 1828. They were the first to make detailed drawings of the area between Suez and Akabah via St. Catherine's. Blackmer 929; Nissen ZBI 2335.
