Half-title, engraved title (after Vernet), 5 engraved folding maps of the battle (details hand-colored), one engraved folding panoramic battlefield view, one folding table (one map with two clean tears). Contemporary mottled green calf gilt, WITH THE GILT ARMORIAL STAMP OF NAPOLEON BONAPARTE AS FIRST CONSUL ON COVERS (see Olivier, pl.2652, fer. no.11), broad gilt borders of two double fillets and one leafy roll, smooth spine in six compartments with small republican emblems, edges gilt, pink endpages (light wear to joints and corners); slipcase. Provenance: E.H. Mills (bookplate).

General Berthier's account of one of Napoleon's most significant military victories. THREE CONTEMPORARY DOCUMENTS BOUND IN: Partly printed document signed ("Bonaparte") with a three-line autograph endorsement, Milan, [19 Sep. 1796], 1 p., 2o, on Armée d'Italie letterhead, counterendorsed by Berthier ("B"). Authorizing payment to the 1st batallion of "tirailleurs" (skirmishers) -- Engraved document with secretarial signature ("Bonaparte"), countersigned by Berthier as Ministre de la Guerre, 29 floreal an 11e, 1 p. 2o, on vellum. Military commission for Jean Michel Rieger -- And another, signed by Perquier, aide to the Ministre de la Guerre.
