[AMERICAN REVOLUTION, COLONIAL PERIOD, VIRGINIA]. DINWIDDIE, Robert (1693-1770), Governor of Virginia. Partly printed document signed ("Robt Dinwiddie"), a grant of property in Augusta County, in the Shenandoah Valley, Williamsburg, 12 February 1755. 1 page, double folio (13 7/8 x 14 in.), accomplished in manuscript, ON VELLUM, signature pale, soiling and minor loss to edges. Governor Dinwiddie grants "Robert Fowler one certain tract or Parcel of Land containing fifty acres Lying and being in the County of Augusta on a branch of the North River of Shanando" for five shillings. Just a couple months after Dinwiddie signed this grant, he organized Braddock's doomed expedition into the Pennsylvania wilderness. -- LEE, Henry "Light-Horse Harry" (1756-1818), Major General, Continental Army. Partly printed document signed ("Henry Lee") as Governor of Virginia, a militia officer's commission, Richmond, 9 May 1793. 1 page, folio (12 5/8 x 7¼ in.), accomplished in manuscript and endorsed on verso, paper seal in lower left corner, separated at horizontal fold and browned. Governor Lee appoints Andrew Ervin lieutenant in the 1st battalion of the 32nd Regiment of militia. Lee proved himself as a cavalry commander during the Revolution and was the father of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. Together two items. (2)
