Lot Essay

Henry Young was active in Center, Columbia, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lycoming, Mifflin, Northumberland, Snyder and Union Counties, Pennsylvania. A schoolmaster, unordained minister and farmer, Young is thought to have arrived in Pennsylvania circa 1817. He subsequently appears as a teacher at a union school, Mifflinberg, West Buffalo Township, Northumberland County. Young is known to have been working in several distinct styles, as a result his works have been attributed to several different artists. For another work by Henry Young see lot 723.
