Lot Essay

Aaron Mountz lived in Condoguinet Creek, near Carlisle, Cumberland County, about a mile from the residence of Wilhelm Schimmel. As a young boy, Mountz was inspired by Schimmel's exceptional talent as a carver. Mountz's best works came from his early teens and twenties and are characterized by consistent and deliberate cross-hatching.
