each of slightly asymmetrical form, painted over a chalky white slip with a broad decorative band on the interior, the first, with a bold zigzag band against a finely striated ground; the second, with a pattern of radiating triangles in three registers against a similar ground; the third, with a bold pattern of positive and "negative" angular designs accented with dotted squares against a similar ground; and the fourth, with a bold four-pointed star surmounted by a pattern of radiating angles formed by interlocking striated bars

Provenance
Sotheby's, May 21, 1996, lot 12: "This group of four geometric bowls ... were found together in the vicinity of the historic mining town of Mongollon, Arizona, in what was thought to be a collapsed mine portal, but was, in fact, a natural cave that had been covered by a rock slide probably generated during mine activities. The vessels were found in an inverted position, four of them placed in stacks of two."
