Inscribed Dieses Kist Gehert Mir Jacobus Ober 1794 (This Chest belongs to Jacobus Ober 1794), this chest is one of at least ten with similar inscriptions followed by both male and female names. Several of these bear the initials "JF" and as such they are attributed to John Flory (b. 1754), a joiner working in Rapho Township, Lancaster County. Bearing dates ranging from 1788-1800, the chests are further related by the open layout of their decoration that features twelve-pointed stars, birds flowers and unicorns.
