Oval works tables with lift-tops enjoyed particular popularity in Baltimore during the early 19th century. A closely related example with rectangular maple or satinwood inlay at the top of the legs and banded inlay on the skirt is illustrated in Hurst and Prown, Southern Furniture 1680-1830 (Williamsburg, 1997), cat. no. 89.
