AMERICAN, PROBABLY BOSTIN, CIRCA 1815

These boldly carved and vigorously formed eagle brackets are among the finest examples to survive from the early 19th century. The finely articulated surfaces and stance of the eagles with slightly downward cast heads and one wing dipping slightly below the other imbue these brackets with a sense of movement and dynamism seldom encountered in the form. Microanalysis confirms they are composed of white pine, supporting the American attribution.
