"A. Elmer Crowell of East Harwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, was a master carver of solid body decoys and decorative carvings. For a period of ten years, beginning in 1908, Crowell managed a hunting camp on Wenham Lake in Beverly, Massachusetts for Dr. John Philips for whom me made several high quality decoys including the preening pintial offered in this auction. Crowell carved actively up until around 1943 when rheumatism in his hands restricted his ability to carve and paint."
