Lot Essay

Nine such pairs are illustrated in "Shang" by Dixon MacD Merkt, p. 28, pl. 21. All the pairs of Wheeler shorebirds originally were owned by the Connecticut Audubon Society. They were all shown at the exhibition "Shang Wheeler and the Housatonic Decoy", 8/3/83 - 2/22/84 at the Old State House, Hartford, CT and New York City in 1949 at The National Sportsmans Show.
