The exterior decorated in blue enamel, iron-red and gilt with a garden scene in the manner of English porcelain Imari patterns, in the interior a mustached man wearing Chinese robes and holding a wine goblet to his mouth, a cartoon bubble reading Lord u had a draught

Lot Essay

Satirical or spoofing subjects based on contemporary prints seem to have become particularly popular towards the end of the 18th century, when the Toby Philpot jugs, the Scotsmen bowls and other similar Chinese export porcelains were made.
