The large coat-of-arms in the center showing a half-moon and a bird of prey leaning against a tree, surmounted by a half-moon crest over a knight's helm, the borders flowering and fruiting vine in iron-red and gilt

Lot Essay

These arms, while not precisely identified, appear on a lacquer seal on a letter written and signed by fourteen chief tax-gatherers and dated Amsterdam, 11 July 1752.
