AN IRON-RED, GILT AND SEPIA PUNCHBOWL
Mid-18th century
Very finely painted with pairs of birds in a garden, including cranes, sparrows, quail and long-tailed mythical pheasants with sacred fungus crests perched on rockwork rendered in shades of sepia, the garden growing with peony, magnolia, dianthus and camellia, all below an intricate flowerhead border, the interior with a deep border repeating these tones above a large scene of another pair of birds in blossoming branches with a butterfly hovering nearby
15¼in. (38.8cm.) diam.
