Lot Essay
This dish seems to have been originally intended as part of a set made in this pattern for the Corbel or Corbet family of France, whose arms showed three crows (corbeau). Visible under the central gilt roundel here is the underglaze blue portion of the Corbel coat. See Christie's New York, The Benjamin F Edwards III Collection of Chinese Export Porcelain, 22 January 2002, lot 178, for a dish from the series over-decorated with another coat-of-arms
