Lot Essay

There is a letter by Stephen Myall of Arthur Ackerman & Son Ltd. dated 8 September 1977 that reads 'We are fairly certain that the horse is Dunstan, owned by Mr. T. Critchley, and the jockey is G. Whitehouse. Dunstan was not a Classic winner but was a successful racehorse in the Potteries area. In 1839 he won the Champagne Stakes a the Pottery Racecourse, Staffordshire, and in 1840 he won the Wolverhampton St. Leger for three-year-old colts, as well as three other races that same year.'
